Keeping House the Organic Way

In an attempt to create a cleaner, healthier home without all of the harsh chemicals, look no further than your cleaning closet.   Baking soda and vinegar can be used in a multitude of ways to clean around your house.  Here are a few creative ways to incorporate these inexpensive ingredients.

-Dishwasher.

Sprinkle one cup of baking soda in the bottom of the dishwasher and run it, empty, on a short cycle.  It will not only refresh the unit, but your dishes will benefit as well as they will dry better and be cleaner.

-Salad Greens.

Wash your leafy greens by filling a large bowl with cold water, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and the veggies, and stir for 3 minutes.  Drain and rinse.

-Microwave.

Combine 1/2 cup vinegar with 1 cup water in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave on high for 3 minutes, and let sit for an additional 3 minutes.  The steam will help loosen caked on grime inside your microwave, and leave the unit smelling fresh and clean.

-Water Bottles/Thermos.

Fill each container with hot water and 1/2 cup baking soda and let sit overnight.  Rinse well – they will be like new.

-Tupperware. 

 

Fill with hot water and 2 tablespoons baking soda.  Let sit for an hour then rinse well – odors and stains will be disappear!
