Whether you are a die-hard foodie, or one who only dines out at restaurants once a month – there are some trends popping up on restaurant menus all over the country that you should be on the lookout for.
Unique Cuts of Beef. Chefs are introducing lesser-known cuts of beef that are often less expensive – a win-win for both the restaurant and the diner. Prepared correctly, these unique cuts have the potential to live up to their gold star cousins of the tenderloin, the New York strip, and the ribeye. Look for the Las Vegas strip, the oyster cut, and the shoulder tender.
Thoughtful Kids’ Menus. Restaurants are finally giving the kids’ menu (and the kids!) the credit they deserve by offering more healthful, sophisticated options. As our adult palates have evolved, so have those of many of our offspring. Not every kid wants chicken nuggies or a hot dog at every meal. Look to see seafood offerings, as well as more vegetarian entrees – on the kids menu. What took so long?
Breakfast Around the Clock. If breakfast is your jam, you are in luck. Admittedly, there is something delightfully scandalous about having pancakes after dark. Look specifically for more egg-heavy dishes popping up on your dinner menu.
Afternoon Delight. 1965 is calling – they want their 2 martini lunch back! Today’s cocktail lunch is thankfully tamed down from it’s Don Draper-esque predecessor, but restaurants are touting recipes with fresh ingredients meant to put a spring in your step and sustain your energy throughout the day (with only a small jolt of booze), not knock you out for the duration and cause you to make poor professional decisions.
