How to Style Women’s Oxfords

Ellen DeGeneres could be considered the mother of the oxford shoe.  In fact, Ellen is now selling a line of footwear, including oxfords, as a part of her ED by Ellen’s lifestyle brand she launched in 2015.   Dating back to the early 1800’s,  oxfords were a by-product of a shoe style called the Oxonian, a half-boot with side slits that gained popularity at Oxford University during that era.  Women started wearing them in the 1920’s, and they’ve been trending in and out of fashion ever since.

When any shoe trend hits, it’s always important to know how to style them.  Women’s oxfords are having a definite moment, and it’s imperative to style them correctly so that your “tomboy” vibe is done right.  There are no defined rules here, but it might be wise to try to add a few feminine elements to your outfit to offset the masculine shape of this shoe. Then, be sure to check and double-check yourself in the mirror.  Here is some inspiration on how to style your oxfords.

For the office…

…for a night out…

…a casual Saturday afternoon…

…brunch with friends.

Oxford heels are also having a moment.  Paired with shorts or a short skirt, they can dress up many a summer outfit.
