The gorgeous, complex designs of Self-Portrait was born in 2013 by Han Chong, who was looking to fill a void in the mid-priced ($400-$600) couture eveningwear market. His designs commonly include layering of crepe, leather, lace, grosgrain, and other materials. Chong says that he considers what women really want to wear, and begins his design from there. The look is intricate, yet unfussy. This design strategy results in beautiful, wearable apparel for real women.
Remarkable are the feminine, yet sometimes androgynous flavor of his designs. Which explains why stars with such dramatically varying styles such as Reese Witherspoon and Kristen Stewart both have worn Self-Portrait on the red carpet and elsewhere.
