Product Spotlight: Tan-Free Tans

We’ve all gotten the memo by now: excessive sun exposure can cause skin cancer and premature aging.  Heck, even a few minutes in the sun unprotected can be damaging.   The days of the Bain de Soleil lady and the Coppertone Kid are officially o-v-e-r.  And thankfully, that “deep, dark tan” look is definitely not en vogue today.

However, many of us feel that a little vitamin D can be therapeutic, and most would agree that we all LOOK better with a little kiss from the sun.  Self-tanners have come a long, long way in the last few years.  The pioneers in the early days of the chemical-laden self-tanners were plagued with orange-y streaky legs, uneven color, stained hands, and an odd, salty stench that could be smelled from down the block.  It just SMELLED orange. Even the celebs couldn’t get it right!

Good news: the stinky orange trainwreck is over!  There are dozens of great products on the market which lend a streak-free, subtle glow with no stinky stench.  Here are two to try.

The Tan Towel is great for the novice.  It’s foolproof application leaves very little room for error.  The towelette is similar in texture and feel to a baby wipe, and is very moisturizing.  One towelette will tan you from head to toe.

Say Hello to Sexy Legs is a great solution focusing mainly on your gams.  Take note: this is NOT a self-tanner, but rather a gel that absorbs into your skin.   It’s akin to makeup for your legs, and it provides awesome coverage and hides any imperfections, veins, scars, bruises, etc.  This is great to use for a night out, when you want your legs looking their best, or even for “contouring” your bustline or arms.   It washes away with soap and water, and will not stain clothing.  Best of all, it’s paraben and sulfate free, and has a very gentle scent.
