Wellington boots, commonly called “Wellies,” originated in 18th century England.  The Duke of Wellington requested that his shoemaker create a boot for him that could go from the battlefield to the dinner table.  Originally made of leather, they morphed into a waterproof version following the invention of rubber in the 1850’s.  And the rest is history!
