It’s nearly the end of the first month of the new year. So often we write lists of resolutions, like lose weight or eat healthier or work harder. Another common one that usually lands on people’s top five is to travel. How often do we actually fulfill most of our resolutions? Somehow life gets busy, usually right around March 10th our lists are completely forgotten and stuffed under a pile of mail, only to reemerge on next year’s list. It’s time to change that! If traveling more is your goal, here are a few tips on how to make it a reality:
1. Be intentional. You will never travel if you don’t make a concerted effort to do so! Think of big ideas and small ones, international and domestic, road trip or flying. Come up with a realistic budget and time frame.
2. Pick a travel companion. Whether it’s a family member or a friend–deciding who you will travel with is important. Talk it over with them and see if work schedules make it possible to get the same time off and discuss details of budget and destinations.
3. Plan your trip. Use a travel agent, book a spot on a tour, or go solo and figure it out. After the destination is determined, it’s most important to book a hotel and decide on transportation. A lot of places have helpful concierge to find out where to go for cool, authentic food and the best things to do in the city. If all else fails, consult a local!
