Makeup Brush Care

Typically, deep cleaning occurs once in the spring and once in the fall. Let’s hope the same is not true for our makeup brushes! Did you know that, depending upon the brush, you should be cleaning them once per week?

According to Bobbi Brown, “concealer and foundation brushes, at least once a week to prevent a buildup of product. And because these brushes are used on your face, the cleaner, the better. Brushes that are used around the eyes should be cleaned at least twice a month, while all others can be washed once a month.”

Think about it… we apply makeup nearly everyday. Sometimes we touch up throughout the day. The oils, particles, and dirt on our faces encounter the brushes we use and then we use them the next day. It is another cleaning routine we need to be better about, because they are in such close contact with our skin!

Depending upon the kind or brand of brushes you have, a specific cleaner may be designated. Otherwise there are general cleaning gels at any drugstore that you can buy and use. For all you DIYers, there are also recipes for homemade cleaners online that work as well!
