Do-good fashion is hardly a new concept nowadays. Toms’ grabbed a hold of the casual shoe market and has proven they have the knowhow to thrive—they even created an online marketplace which allows you to shop by the cause you wish to support. Warby Parker frames gained a devoted nerdy-hipster following through their “buy a pair, give a pair” approach, achieving a claim few companies can truly boast: producing simple frames which are recognizable from a mile away.
The most recent addition to this list of socially conscious fashion creators is seen in the collaboration between Vans, a shoe manufacturer, and designer Della. The socially conscious designer operates in Ghana, employing locals to create handmade textiles with sustainable materials. Vans states, “every purchase of a Della product helps provide jobs, skills training, weekly literacy classes, money management workshops, social security, and healthcare benefits.” Four shoe styles, a clutch, and a handbag are featured in this collaboration. Each item will be one-of-a-kind, varying slightly from piece to piece, due to the handmade nature of Della’s prints. We can’t wait until spring to show off these lovely shoes!
