Most of you know what it’s like to have a cherished artist and suddenly watch them explode beyond your favorite radio station or local scene. It’s bittersweet knowing your beloved gem is now beloved by everyone else. Once you get past the hipster superiority, casually proclaiming you knew them before they were cool, you can love them even more and feel happy for the success they have found and the bright future ahead of them.
Enter J.W. Hulme Co. If you don’t know them, you really should.

To be fair, J.W. Hulme Co. has been in business since 1905, though they still feel like a hidden treasure. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, this leather goods company actually started manufacturing tents for WWI and WWII and eventually expanded their product line to include handbags and luggage. No other company seems to win against time quite like J.W. Hulme Co., as their multigenerational appeal bridges the gap between nostalgic memories of walks in the country and what is relevant today. Their pieces are timeless and, through wear and use, only seem to gain more character.
What is fascinating, for lack of a better word, is that this luxury goods company also manufactures their products in St. Paul. Minnesota does not claim to be a fashion mecca, but despite this, they produce amazing pieces. The leathers and canvases used are all American and of great quality produced by their highly skilled artisans. It is no wonder that such beautiful, well-made products caught the eye of Barneys New York and graced the pages of InStyle and other popular fashion magazines.
Just recently, J.W. Hulme Co. announced a collaboration with Woolrich of Pennsylvania. Together, they created two pieces: a carry-all tote and a holiday stocking. The Woolrich plaid combined with the J.W. Hulme Co. leather blends perfectly. We love this new collaboration and cannot wait to see what is to come. Maybe boots made of their beautiful leathers? One can hope!
On November 10, J.W. Hulme Co. will be selling their lovely bags at Northern Grade Minneapolis held at The Grain Belt Bottling House. Swing by if you get a chance! Otherwise, find all their wonderful products online!
Thank you to J.W. Hulme Co. for kindly providing Boottique with the Woolrich collaboration photo.
